Also, the latest news out is that next years E3 will be heavily scaled down to most likely suit-and-tie meetings where the press gets info presented to them. No more show floor, pretty much.

That and the PS3 is too big. It was a feat of modern engineering that they managed to fit the damn thing in the expo hall to begin with.
