Listen to dust in the wind by Kansas. That is what it would be like if there was no God or afterlife. Everything will be destroyed anyway, so if you don't believe in the after life or that some eternal being will remember what we did after everything is over. Even if you make your own purpose it will then be obliterated when you and every one who knew you is dead. No all atheist believe in evolution, but one thing all atheist have in common is that they believe that when you die you rot in the ground and that is it. All you accomplishments to better humanity will not matter when humanity is gone. Even if atheist do think their finding their own purpose their purpose wont matter when all purpose is gone forever which is inevitable with out an afterlife or remembrance by an unending unforgetting being.
I think that is pretty dam n close to nihilism.
that's not at all what nihilism is. you're the one with the nihilistic viewpoint, obviously. your'e saying that if there isn't a god, then nothing matters. that's not true. you're also saying that all of humanity will be wiped out? uhh.
yeah, I'll die and everyone i Know will die and we'll rot in the ground. but i'll affect people, who will affect people, who will affect people. just because no one remembers me doesn't mean I didn't exist, or that it didn't matter, or that what I did in my life didn't matter. I'm personally making the future slightly (hardly..) better: I don't eat meat, I don't drive, I recycle, etc. etc etc. I vote for a a president who does stuff that will affect generations. My name won't be personally attached to things, but that's not what's important.
I'm guessing the "all of humanity gone forever" thing is something dealing with "Judgement day"? well, as an atheist, that wouldn't exist. so your viewpoint from an atheist view to prove atheism as nihilism doesn't work.
I'm not a nihlist.
this thread isn't "convince me I'm nihlistic" it's convince me there's a god.
religion involves too much procrastination. I only have this life, and a certain number of years. I need to make the best of it becuase i don't have all of eternity afterwards to hang out with friends and tell people I love them.
if wer're getting into a "who's the nihilist" debate, I could argue that people who believe in an afterlife are nihilistic because they're so busy thinking about the afterlife to live their actual life. a sort of none of this matters, it's all about what's after.
but I'm not getting into that debate, because it's a stretch. nihilists are nihilists. the end.
Look, I'm sorry for my harshness on this thread. I respect all of you and your religious and beliefs. I consider you my friends and I always will. Janae If you really want to be convinced, please give me a call some time; if not agree to disagree. Either way I'm sorry or being suck an ass.
